Every year, I pick a whole bunch of seeds for new things to grow in the garden. These are usually heirloom tomatoes, squashes. peas, mustard greens . Once I receive the seeds, I get really excited about getting them started and seeing them grow. This year too, I’ve ordered seeds for a lot of things, some I have already started and what’s really got me happy is the blooms I’v been seeing for a few days now on my Red Kuri Squash.

I was a student at University of Tokyo and I ate my lunches at the University Cafeteria. Kabocha squash was often part of the meal, either as tempura or a small piece in the soup. Recently, I’ve been missing it and this is hopefully something that assuages that hankering.
